Joseph Leonard Gordon-Levitt (/lvt/; born February 17, 1981) is an actor and filmmaker from the United States. He has garnered numerous awards, including Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his major roles in 500 Days of Summer (2009) and 50/50 (2009). (2011).

White Night, a psychological thriller on Jones' infamous People's Temple cult, has cast Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Chloe Grace Moretz as cult leader Jim Jones and Jonestown victim Deborah Layton.
jones, a charismatic preacher based in San Francisco, amassed a large and devoted following. In Guyana, he founded "Jonestown" in 1974. On Nov. 18, 1978, Jones issued a command to his followers to swallow poison. One of the largest mass murder-suicides in history claimed the lives of over 900 people.
The adaptation of Layton's best-selling memoir, Seductive Poison, will be directed by Anne Sewitsky (A Very British Scandal) from a scenario by William Wheeler (The Ghost in the Shell).
Gordon-Levitt isn't the only one who has been cast to play the infamous figure. In November, EW announced that Leonardo DiCaprio, who co-starred with him in Inception, is scheduled to play Jones in a biography written by Venom writer Scott Rosenberg.
Despite the fact that neither Gordon-Levitt nor Grace Moretz are newcomers to the psychological thriller genre, they have both lately dabbled in animation. The former will voice Jiminy Cricket in Disney's live-action Pinocchio in 2022, while the latter has roles in Tom & Jerry and The Addams Family 2 in 2021.
