Dakota Johnson to Star in Sony's 'Madame Web'

Madame Web is a psychic mutant who specialises in foreseeing the future of Spider-themed superheroes.

Madame Web, a Sony spinoff based on the Spider-Man persona, is in talks to cast Dakota Johnson as the title character.

The film, which is part of Sony's growing stable of Marvel-based films, will be directed by S.J. Clarkson.

After the huge success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sony is eager to expand its Marvel universe, according to Deadline, which reports that Dakota Johnson is in discussions to feature in the studio's Madame Web film.

The film will be directed by S.J. Clarkson. The screenplay was written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, with an earlier draught written by Kerem Sanga.

Madame Web was featured in the comics as an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis who was tethered to a life support device that resembled a spider web.

Madame Web never actively fought any villains due to her age and sick condition.

As a result, sources say it's possible the project will morph into something different. According to insiders,She is effectively Sony's Doctor Strange, thanks to her psychic sensory abilities.

The studio is on a high after the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which earned $1.74 billion worldwide, the highest in Sony history.

Johnson, who is repped by WME, Untitled Entertainment, and Johnson Shapiro, is presently starring in The Lost Daughter, a Netflix award contender.

Clarkson has directed television shows such as HBO's Succession and Netflix's Jessica Jones. Anatomy of a Scandal, a six-episode Netflix adaptation of the same-named novel, is now under production. WME represents Clarkson.

Sony has already released "Venom"(2018) and "Venom: Let There Be Carnage"(2020) as part of the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters, which owns the film rights to Spider-Man and other related characters.
